From not enough sun protection to neglected cleansing: freundin expert Victoria Stocker reveals four skincare mistakes that we all like to make in summer

For a beautiful complexion, four skin care mistakes should be avoided in summer

For most of us, summer is the best time of year: skin is getting darker, hair is getting lighter, drinks are getting cooler and better! However, we have to protect our skin from aggressive UV rays and give it good care. Four mistakes that many people make when it comes to skin care in summer are these:

1. TOO LITTLE SUN PROTECTION IS APPLIED

We all know that summer (and yes, winter too!) sun protection is the be-all and end-all for skin. This protects our skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays and ensures that we do not burn ourselves. However, the basic requirement for this is that the sun protection is renewed every 60-90 minutes !

The power of the sun’s rays should not be underestimated, especially on the beach and in the water. Due to the mirroring and reflection of the rays, it is particularly easy to get sunburned here – if you also sweat excessively, then even the best sun protection has a maximum lifespan of approx. 90 minutes.

So the first tip for perfect summer skin: cream, cream and cream again!

2. RETINOL IN THE MORNING

Retinol is indisputably one of the most popular beauty ingredients. And not without reason! With regular use, retinol ensures a more radiant, even complexion and refines the complexion in the long term. However, caution is advised, especially in summer: Since retinol removes dead skin cells, the (new) skin underneath is much more sensitive. Retinol should therefore never be used in the morning in summer and you should only use it sparingly and about once a week in the evening. Particularly important for the day after: apply sufficient sun protection with at least SPF 30 and avoid extensive sunbathing.

3. TOO OILY SKIN CARE

While many people like to use a greasy cream in winter, it is advisable to refrain from doing so in summer. In the warm season, the skin needs much more moisture than fat, as it becomes dehydrated through increased sweating. A cooling, moisturizing serum is just the thing for the hot summer months. Reach for hyaluronic acid, vitamin C or aloe vera for the ultimate freshness and moisture boost!

4. MAKE-UP REMOVAL AND CLEANSING ARE NEGLECTED

Even if it may seem annoying and you may have already “sweated off” a large part of your make-up – you still can’t avoid thorough make-up removal! And even on vacation, when you give your skin a break from make-up and the like, thorough facial cleansing in the evening is essential to maintain a beautiful complexion. Remnants of sand, sea salt and sunscreen can get stuck in the pores, as can make-up. Reach for a gentle cleansing milk so as not to strain the skin too much and to thoroughly rid your face, neck and décolleté of the remains of the day. Then you can use a moisturizing night cream.
